A Look Into Seasonal Based Company Sales
With the different types of markets we have looked at, I thought it would be interesting to see how seasonal jobs work. These jobs are pretty self explanatory, with sales increasing at a particular time of year. The holiday time is the biggest example of this. Black Friday and Christmas are only two of the crazy events during the holiday season. Companies have to make accommodations for the crowded stores and large number of sales.
To prepare for these occasions, stores will often hire extra employees to help. According to an article written by the Los Angeles Times,"Big retailers such as Walmart, Target, Kohl’s, JCPenney and Amazon.com are hiring 304,000 seasonal employees, compared with 283,000 last year." The jobs that people are getting hired for aren't very difficult and don't require much skill. Therefore, those who work a seasonal job don't get paid very well. The average employee makes roughly $9-$11 an hour. Nevertheless, it's still a job and it's good to see the individuals working hard.
It's important for seasonal based companies to stay profitable throughout the year. Business owners must "understand and manage your cash flow and expenses...look for ways to minimize them." This time could also be used to strategize, plan and train employees.

Nice post Aimee! It's interesting how many seasonal-based jobs tend to be low-skilled and thus low wage. When these workers are let go after the work season is over, what do they do? Do these workers already have another year-long job, or do they move from seasonal job to seasonal job throughout the year?
