NFL vs. NBA
The NFL and the NBA are the two most popular sports leagues in America, far outcompeting every other league including the MLB and NHL. The NFL has traditionally held the most dominant ratings and still pulls in the most annual viewers, but the NBA, headed by generational superstars such as LeBron James and Stephen Curry, has had its popularity tremendously grow in recent years.
While the NBA seems to be generating higher and higher ratings every year, the NFL's weekly ratings have shown a consistent decline. Football's viewership crash has been blamed on various factors including brain injuries, domestic violence, and the National Anthem controversy. Although the NFL is still America's favorite sport league, the NBA, second most popular, seems poised to surge and even potentially claim football's throne sometime in the near future.
In terms of revenue growth, the NBA is growing three times faster than the NFL; in ten years, the NFL is expected to generate $28 billion compared to a predicted NBA total revenue of over $60 billion. While it's impossible to predict exactly what will happen in the future, it seems likely that basketball will soon become America's #1 sport.

Great post! How do you think the existence of Superbowl, which generates tons of revenue just being one singular event, plays into the equation? Unlike basketball, football is able to generate a lot of profit just through one event? If the number does not match up, what could the football industry do to raise its popularity/or revenue?
