The Cost of Climate Change

We all know the potential impacts of climate change and we all know that many of those impacts are irreversible. But what kind of impact does climate change have on the economy? Well first, climate change has the power to threaten up to 1.2 billion jobs. The jobs that will feel the hit the hardest include those in agriculture, fisheries, and forestry as these habitats are the most directly influenced by climate change. Just recently in May of last year, Stanford University calculated that if temperatures rose only 2.5 percent, the global GDP would actually fall by 15 percent. Even scarier, at three degrees, the GDP would fall 25 percent. If global temperatures continue to rise, the impact could be even worse than the Great Depression except for this time it would be permanent.
Ever notice that the cost of meat is really really high? Well when it gets too hot out, corn and soybean yields actually decrease dramatically as a result of the decrease in worker productivity. But here's the thing: that's not all. Corn and soybeans contribute to the food supply for our meat supply. Less food supply? Then you're undoubtedly going to have spikes in the price of these foods. And let's not forget about the extreme natural disasters that have been occurring more and more frequently. These natural disasters have resulted in the displacement of millions of people which has cost billions of dollars.
Yet funny enough, despite all the evidence that climate change is real, it's strange how many refuse to even believe that it is happening. Most of the scientists believe that it is man-made too. I find it interesting that the world is run on money. It's always all about who or what can make the most money regardless of the means. But I also find it interesting that the same people who are ruthless in their pursuit for money are simply too stupid to realize that their ignorance and continued disbelief in climate change and its impacts will one day be the reason for perhaps what could be their biggest loss.

I agree with you entirely. There are so many evidence of climate change and the potential harm of it is immeasurable. Yet so many people refuse to acknowledge its existence. One thing to take away is that climate change not only affects the environment, it affects so many aspect of life because this issues threaten the very foundation we based our society on. It is terrifying to see so many of us are turning a blind eye to this problem, there are still so much more that needs to be done.
