Why do the Workers for the Richest Man in the World make so little?
Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder/CEO has accumulated a net worth of approximately 140 billion dollars, making him the richest person in the world. But half of the employees employed by Amazon are making less than $28,446. Employees make $14 per hour, with Bezos making more than their salaries every nine seconds. It is widely believed that Bezos has acquired his status at the expense of his employees. Factory working deal with poor working environments with many accidents and being forced to work in poor conditions. It is assumed that the company pays its employees respectively since it is the second largest employer in the US, but there are many costs for the company to take into account with warehouses being the biggest cost. The company has to maintain and efficiently run its hundred of warehouses across the country. The company also relies on unskilled labor because of the highly automated warehouses, and Amazon gives additional benefits such as health and retirement plans, job training, and shares in the company.
